After she was asked Monday by Stanford University students about the Bush administration’s widely acknowledged practice of torturing prisoners, former National Security Advisor and Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice – in a voice dripping with condescension – replied: “No, dear, you’re wrong. We did not torture anyone…By definition, if it was authorized by the president, it did not violate our obligations under the Convention Against Torture.”

So it’s settled. The president’s orders were legal because he issued them. Now I know what a college bull session is.
