I have mixed emotions about the verbal lambasting heaped on Donald Rumsfeld outside the May 9 White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC. On one hand, I like the public to hold our leaders accountable. On the other hand, the first of two Code Pink protesters who loudly repudiated Rumsfeld looks a bit crazed (see video).
With the building slated for demolition later this year, Springsteen returned to The Spectrum in Philadelphia for two final shows. On the first night, an unusually well-crafted sign (actually seven separate signs held together) requesting “Fire” caught his eye, and the Boss complied.
This is the first ever performance of “Wild Thing” by Springsteen and the E Street Band. The song was written by Chip Taylor, and covered most famously by The Troggs and Jimi Hendrix.
In Boston, where he’s always enjoyed an especially strong following, Springsteen surprised the audience with a cover of The Ramones classic, “I Wanna Be Sedated,” the first time he and the band have played the song. The camera angle is poor, but the energy is great.
John Fogerty’s “Proud Mary” is one of those songs everybody feels compelled to sing along with. In Los Angeles, the band and the crowd didn’t disappoint each other. Check out the Big Man’s Ike Turner imitation.
